January 2022
Welcome to 2022, the year when every day is an opportunity! That’s what we like to think, and we invite you to chew on some radical optimism along with us.
Birch Bark is moving forward, thanks to all of you who’ve supported us. This year we’ll be expanding our Mix & Meet Workshop offerings, holding more InConversation events, and opening up MicroLit Almanac to the writing community. We have a few spots open for those of you in need of editing or coaching services, too. Reach out and keep us busy doing what we love.
We hope you’re enjoying MicroLit Almanac as much as we enjoy publishing it. Our latest flash pieces are by Gail Hosking, Craig Holt, Ani Kazarian, and John Coats. Find these and our upcoming pieces on our website at MicroLit Almanac. Submissions will open later this month – watch our social media posts for more information.
Our first InConversation event is international in scope. On Saturday, January 29 at 2 PM EST, we’ll present There the Rock Glistens–14 Poems (A Period of Sickness) by Arthur Gold. Our readers include poet David Ferry, poet/translator Emmanuel Merle, and translator Caroline Talpe, along with translator Peter Brown. This Zoom event is being widely publicized in France, so Caroline Talpe will facilitate the readings which will be in French and English. We’d like to thank Éditions Encre & lumière for the opportunity to host this event.
Mix & Meet resumes on Tuesday, January 11th at 5-6:30 PM EST. You know the drill this class fills up and space is limited. The workshop fee is $25.
Stay tuned for more InConversation events with June Gervais, Sam Kolawole, and Amy Butcher.
And for fun, we’re collaborating with Liveright Publishing Corporation, a division of W.W. Norton and Company, Aaron Poochigian and Cheryl Pappas, on video recordings of writers reading from Aaron’s translation of Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire. Look for the recordings on MicroLit Almanac.
Happy New Year!
