BBE InConversation with Ray Nayler and Wendy Wagner

Join us Tuesday, October 18th at 7 p.m. Eastern (4 p.m. Pacific) for a reading and conversation with Ray Nayler and Wendy N. Wagner. Ray will be reading from his most recent novel Mountain in the Sea and Wendy will be reading from her novella The Secret Skin. Together they will examine the art and craft of writing and the writing profession. We welcome questions from the audience!

An experienced writer of short stories, poetry, and travelogues, Ray began publishing speculative fiction in 2015 in the pages of Asimov’s with the short story "Mutability"  Since then, his critically acclaimed stories have seen print in Clarkesworld, Analog, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Lightspeed, and Nightmare, as well as in several Locus Recommended Reading lists and “Best of the Year” anthologies. His story "Winter Timeshare” from the January/February 2017 issue of Asimov's was collected by the late Gardner Dozois in The Very Best of the Best: 35 Years of the Year's Best Science Fiction. His story "The Ocean Between the Leaves" from the July/August 2019 issue of Asimov's was selected for The Best Science Fiction of the Year Volume 5, edited by Neil Clarke, and his story "Father" from the July/August 2020 issue of Asimov's is in The Year's Best Science Fiction Volume 2, edited by Jonathan Strahan. Ray's short story "Yesterday's Wolf" won the Clarkesworld Reader's Choice Award for 2021.

Wendy N. Wagner is the editor-in-chief of Nightmare Magazine and the managing/senior editor of Lightspeed. Her short stories, essays, and poems run the gamut from horror to environmental literature. Her longer work includes the novella The Secret Skin (one of The Washington Post’s best SF/F/H books of 2021), the horror novel The Deer Kings,  the Locus bestselling SF eco-thriller An Oath of Dogs,  and two novels for the Pathfinder role-playing game.
